Manchester United and Southampton in disagreement over Brandon Williams loan fee

According to transfer news from The Sun, a loan deal between Manchester United and Southampton for Brandon Williams has hit a stumbling block. United seemingly want more than £2million for letting Williams leave on a temporary deal. However, Southampton have deemed that fee to be too much.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in 2019/20 due to Luke Shaw’s injuries, However, he failed to hit the same heights last season. In fact, he made just 19 appearances last season, making a solitary assist. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Capable of playing on either flank, Williams can bomb up and down the pitch with relative ease. However, it must be admitted that he does have some development to do before he can make it at United. The arrival of Telles and the resurgence of Shaw did little to help his cause.

While Southampton did recruit Romain Perraud, he is still their only player for the left-back role. That has seen the Saints take an interest in a loan deal for Williams. However, that deal has hit a roadblock as Manchester United are demanding a loan fee of £2million. Southampton are unlikely to pay that much for a loan spell despite Williams being keen on the deal.

With Luke Shaw and Alex Telles locking horns at left-back, Williams’ chances of overtaking either of them are minute. A decent player, it wouldn’t hurt United if Williams gets some sort of first-team action at a Premier League side like Southampton. However, they will need to come to a compromise over the loan fee.
