England star Marcus Rashford’s mural restored amid support from fans
According to Evening Standard, the defaced mural of England star Marcus Rashford was restored amid tremendous support from fans. On Monday, the mural was defaced with obscene graffiti but fans slowly came to cover it and posted heartfelt messages. Following that, Akse, who painted the mural, returned to restore it.
It has been a tumultuous two days for Marcus Rashford. The England striker could not convert his spot-kick along with Sancho and Saka, meaning that Italy won the Euros. In the aftermath, Rashford, Sancho and Saka received vile and racist abuse online.
The mural that was painted at Withington was drawn over with obscene graffiti and racist abuses. The racist attacks sparked outrage as prominent footballers, pundits, fans and even Prime Minister Boris Johnson came out in support of the players, condemning such hateful behaviour.
Fans were quick on their feet to cover sections of the mural with messages of support and love. The painter of the mural, Akse then came on Tuesday to restore the original artwork. The wall is currently filled with those messages as hundreds of fans have gone there and shown their support for the England star.
Rashford spoke for the first time today after the game and penned an emotional apology to the fans. He also condemned the racist attack on him as well as his teammates. The world has rallied together in support of the Mancunian.

Law enforcement is looking into the issue and hopes to nab the culprits behind such criminal acts. Racism has no place in football and such things need to be weeded out. Stakes were high for England but such things happen in football. One can only hope Rashford emerges out of this stronger and keeps his head held high for all that he has done for the nation.
