Manchester United won’t offer Donny van de Beek in swap deal for Raphael Varane

According to transfer news from Express, Manchester United will not offer Donny van de Beek in exchange for Raphael Varane. While United are keen on signing Varane, they have no intention to offer the Dutch midfielder to Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old was United’s marquee signing last summer and arrived at Old Trafford after a successful spell at Ajax Amsterdam. He got off to an excellent start by scoring on his debut but has struggled since.

Van de Beek ended the season as an unused substitute as United lost to Villarreal on penalties in the Europa League final. In all, he made 36 appearances all season, of which 21 came off the bench (h/t Transfermarkt). That has seen speculation over his future arise in recent weeks.

United’s pursuit of Raphael Varane has been well documented. The Real Madrid defender will be out of contract next season and has shown a willingness to leave. However, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano cleared that the Dutchman will not be a part of this Varane deal (h/t Express). United have only approached Real over a possible deal and a bid is yet to be made.

The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford as one of the rising young players in Eredivisie. Van de Beek has his best years ahead of him and to let him leave on a swap deal would have been a mistake. It’s not known as to what the future holds for him but one would expect Solskjaer to handle it better than last season.
