Transfer News: Manchester United face three-way battle for Saul Niguez

According to transfer news from Daily Star, Manchester United are set to battle Liverpool and Chelsea for Saul Niguez. Liverpool are looking at potential midfielders to replace Georginio Wijnaldum. The Atletico Madrid star is on their radar as well as Chelsea’s.

One of the brightest midfielders in Spain, Saul has come a long way since his developmental years. Over the last few years, he has established himself as an important part of Diego Simeone’s midfield at Atletico. Despite Atletico lifting the La Liga title last season, Saul did not play a very big part in that.

His reduced game time denied him a place in the Spain squad for the Euros that went all the way to the semi-final. This is said to have pushed Saul towards an exit from the club. Saul still has a contract until 2026 and a mammoth release clause of €150m.

It would seem like Manchester United are caught in a three-way battle for Saul. Liverpool and Chelsea have registered their interest in the Spaniard. All three sides are looking to add a new midfielder to their ranks. Liverpool want a replacement for Wijnaldum. Chelsea want a fresh face for their engine room while United could see Pogba depart, with Saul replacing him. Despite the ginormous release clause, Atletico will allow the player to leave for around €40m.
