Transfer News: Manchester United consider signing Giovanni Di Lorenzo
According to transfer news from SportWitness, Manchester United are considering a move for Giovanni Di Lorenzo. The Italian star is being lined up as an alternative for Kieran Trippier. United could have to shell out around €20m if they want him.
Di Lorenzo has been an instant hit at the San Paolo since arriving from FC Empoli in 2019. He has been an undisputed first-choice regular, not just with Gattuso, but also with previous boss Carlo Ancelotti, who was the one to sign him.
United are looking to use the Luke Shaw-Alex Telles method on the other side of the pitch. The arrival of Telles spurred Shaw to perform at his best levels and he is now a star for club and country. While Wan-Bissaka is not performing badly per se, he could do with a bit of competition.
United, for that reason, have tried to go after Trippier. However, they are not willing to meet Atletico’s valuation of the defender. That has left United to turn towards Di Lorenzo of Napoli. The Red Devils have shown some interest in the defender, who could cost around €20m.
Di Lorenzo has been one of those quiet performers for Italy in the Euros. His defensive nature has allowed Italy and Leonardo Spinazzola to attack with freedom. Essentially, he has played as a third centre-back, which explains why Italy are so tough to break down.

These are still early days in United’s interest in the player. They are yet to act on it and it will be interesting to see if they abandon Trippier’s pursuit and go after Di Lorenzo. While he might not have hogged the limelight, he has still been an effective presence.
