Manchester United handed Cristiano Ronaldo boost as Juventus eye Dusan Vlahovic
According to Italian outlet Tuttojuve (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United have been handed a boost in their efforts to sign Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
The 36-year-old despite his age continues to be a top player in the Italian top-flight. With just a year to go on his Juventus deal, his future is up in the air. As things stand, United lead the race for his signature.
Juventus paid a mammoth amount to land him three years ago and are ready to listen to offers, provided he has no intention of staying. He is also the Turin giants’ top earner and selling him will free up space on their wage bill. This will let them make moves for new reinforcements this summer.
According to the report, Juventus are eyeing Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic. However, they will only be able to do so once they get Ronaldo off their books. The Serbian striker scored 21 goals last season and trailed just Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Luis Muriel in the top scorers’ list. (h/t BBC)
Sevilla are also interested in Vlahnvoic and may make their move soon. Given the young Serbian’s potential, Juventus are keen to not lose out on him. Sevilla’s interest could finally force them to make a move and attempt to sell Ronaldo first.
That could be good news for United who could now have a shot at bringing Ronaldo back to the Theatre of Dreams. Adding him alongside Jadon Sancho would be a dream scenario for most fans.
A major issue is matching what Ronaldo earns at Juventus. That will comfortably make him the highest earner at Old Trafford. With Jadon Sancho’s arrival and potentially Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba signing new contracts, our wage bill could shoot out of control.
While we are all for nostalgia, a return for Ronaldo isn’t something that we should prioritize.
