Manchester United make a contract offer for Juventus ace Cristiano Ronaldo
According to the Italian outlet Cult of Calcio (h/t Mirror), Manchester United are so far the only side to make an offer for Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 36-year-old is smarting from a frustrating season that saw him fall short with both Juventus and Portugal. With just a year to go on his current deal in Turin, he could be open to a new challenge elsewhere.
French giants Paris Saint-Germain and former club Real Madrid are also monitoring the player’s situation. However, both clubs are biding their time before tabling formal offers for the footballing legend. (h/t Mirror)
According to the report, United’s offer pales significantly to what Ronaldo currently earns at Juventus. The player currently earns £27m per year after tax in Turin. A return to Manchester will see him pocket just half of that current wage bracket.
Whether Ronaldo is willing to stay on for another lucrative payday or return to United remains to be seen. As things stand, he will have a major decision to make this summer. Having already secured Jadon Sancho, United will do well to also bring Ronaldo back to the Theatre of Dreams. However, at 36, he is past the peak of his powers and we will do well to invest that money elsewhere.
According to the Italian outlet, La Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Mirror), Juventus are not overtly perturbed by Ronaldo’s future. They are preparing for a potential exit and have already earmarked replacements. Among them are Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic and PSG’s Mauro Icardi.
