Manchester United fans react as Victor Lindelof stars for Sweden

Manchester United star Victor Lindelof has his fair share of detractors. The Swedish international is often seen as a weak link at centre-back and has often come in for criticism.

An automatic starter for Sweden, he gave a good account of himself at the Euros. Lindelof won the star of the match award in their opener against Spain, displaying just what he can do when played right.

The Swedes were handed a favourable tie against Ukraine in the first knockout round but were unable to find a way past the easy Europeans. Artem Dovbyk’s last gasp goal in extra time consigned Lindelof and co to a heartbreaking loss.

While there was disappointment on the pitch, Lindelof arrived home to much joy. His wife Maja Nilsson posted a video of him arriving at their doorstep on Instagram. A visibly emotional Lindelof is greeted by his son Ted Louie, who rushes out of the door to hug him.

The two-year-old’s excitement is only matched by the show of emotion on Lindelof’s face as he pulls the toddler into his arms. It is fair to say that it is a moment that will bring a smile to the coldest of hearts. There are some things in life more precious than glory on the field.

While his stay at the Euros may have been cut short, Lindelof can now look to rest and recuperate at home with his loved ones ahead of the new campaign. There is little doubt that he is in the right place to get his bearings right and make the best use of his time.

Lindelof joined United in 2017 and has since made 161 appearances for the club. During this time, he has scored three goals and assisted four more. He is yet to win his first major honour for the club and will hopefully do so in the upcoming campaign.

United are in the market for a defender and it remains to be seen just what the future holds for Lindelof. There is, however, absolutely no doubt that he is clearly the first choice for his family. Long may that continue.
