Manchester United and Aston Villa to battle it out for Harry Winks
According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Manchester United will have to see off Aston Villa if they are serious about landing Harry Winks this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to boost his squad after a season that saw the Red Devils come second in two different competitions. The Norwegian is keen to bring in three players this summer, with a midfielder in his sights. This has seen him earmark Harry Winks as a potential addition. (h/t Express)
The Englishman has endured a difficult season at Spurs, having fallen out of favour with former boss Jose Mourinho. The signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg last summer did him no favours, relegating him further down the pecking order. With Nuno Espirito Santo taking over, it remains to be seen if Winks features in his plans.
Having already landed Emi Buendia, Villa boss Dean Smith is keen to also add Winks to his roster. With Manchester City in the race for Jack Grealish, bringing in new players could be more of a priority than a luxury at Villa Park this summer.
The Villans are hopeful that Winks’ reduced standing at Tottenham could help them land him for a cheap price this summer. The 25-year-old can also be assured of betetr opportunities with the Clarets in comparison to Spurs.
Winks was linked with a move to United earlier in the summer. According to that report from Express, an offer of £25m could be enough to tempt Spurs into selling the England international. It is debatable if United are still keen as news regarding our pursuit has since gone cold.
Meanwhile, Smith already has John McGinn, Douglas Luiz and Marvelous Nakamba available in Winks’ position. But interest in McGinn and Luiz from elsewhere could force him into an overhaul of the midfield. (h/t The Telegraph)

Winks, despite his lowered standing, is a tidy player capable of holding his own. While he may have fallen off in recent months, age is on his side as he aims to resurrect his career. Considering the upwards trajectory Villa are on, moving to Villa Park is not a bad idea. If that were to happen, United need not shed any tears.
