Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t The Express), Ian McGarry has revealed that Manchester United have offered Donny van de Beek in exchange for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils are long time admirers of the 21-year-old winger and hope they will be fourth time lucky in their pursuit of landing him. Currently with the England squad at the Euros, Sancho is enduring a frustrating tournament where he has largely watched on from the stands.

This has done little to dampen United’s interest in him. They remain as motivated as ever to get the deal over the line.

“It is our information that Van de Beek has been mentioned as part of the potential deal to take Jadon Sancho to United.”

United have made multiple bids for Sancho this summer. However, neither of them has tickled Dortmund’s fancy. A deal is yet to be reached. According to The Express, United have earmarked an upper limit to what they will offer for Sancho.

Perhaps to even the scales, they are now looking to get the offer over the line by offering Van de Beek in return. According to the report, the Dutchman is not aware of the offer as Dortmund continue to consider the proposal.

“It’s not something we understand Van de Beek is aware of”

A failed gamble?

The 24-year-old was United’s marquee signing last summer and arrived at Old Trafford to much hype after a successful spell at Ajax Amsterdam. Despite a good start, he has largely been underwhelming.

According to the report, Van de Beek would prefer to stay at the club and battle for a starting berth. Whether he will be permitted to do that or be sacrificed for Sancho remains to be seen.
