Manchester United join the race for Italian hotshot Manuel Locatelli
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United have entered the race for Italian international Manuel Locatelli.
The 23-year-old has been steadily building a reputation at Sassuolo since being sold by AC Milan in 2019. He has so far been the standout Italian player for the Azzurri in this summer’s European Championship.
Locatelli scored twice in Italy’s 3-0 win over Switzerland earlier this week. The win put them on top of Group A with one game to go. It is fair to say that his performances have not gone unnoticed with a host of Premier League sides now keeping tabs.
United now join the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, who are all keen on the 23-year-old. He is however expected to end up at Italian giants Juventus this summer.
Sassuolo are demanding top dollar and want €60m for the Italian international. A central midfielder, he made 34 appearances for Sassuolo last season, scoring four goals and assisting three more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
New Spurs Managing Director Fabio Paratici is a big fan of the player. The North Londoners are however without a full-time manager and could also lose their crown jewel in Harry Kane. It is fair to say that any of the other sides in contention could offer Paratici a better project at the moment.
United could do with a player of Locatelli’s skill set and will add goals from midfield. He is certainly a more dynamic option than the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred. Locatelli is a rising star in the Italian game and United will do well to keep a tab on his progress.

Locatelli started off his career at Atalanta before joining the Milan youth setup in 2009. The Rossoneri’s perceived lack of faith in him saw Locatelli seek greener pastures elsewhere. Milan’s loss is now Sassuolo’s gain.
