Leicester City keen to tie down Youri Tielemans amidst Manchester United interest

According to Leicester Mercury, Leicester City are keen to tie down Manchester United target Youri Tielemans to a new contract and pledge his future to the club.

The 24-year-old is a key member of the Foxes’ squad and features prominently in Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the club. He played a key role in their fifth-place finish last season and scored the winner in the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Having missed out on the Champions League yet again, Leicester has made some quick moves in the transfer market. The likes of both Boubakary Soumare and Patson Daka appear to be on board as Rodgers hopes for a top-four finish next season.

Despite the additions, a major focus of their summer business is to keep hold of Tielemans. The Belgian international has attracted attention from United and Liverpool who could both make a move for his services.

At 24, Tielemans has his best years ahead of him and can be one of Leicester’s top stars. The Foxes are building something special at the King Power and are very much a work in progress. Keeping hold of Tielemans will give them a massive boost going forward.

Tielemans is a quality midfielder who would instantly challenge for starts at Old Trafford. He offers something different and is a massive upgrade on both Fred and Scott McTominay. Landing him would be nothing short of a masterstroke given his excellent potential.

Liverpool too could make a serious move to land him this summer. The Reds let go of Georginio Wijnaldum as a free agent, while Naby Keita could also be sold. Having finished in the top four, they will now be keen to drive home the success. (h/t LeciestershireLive)

Tielemans joined Leicester from Monaco in 2019 following a successful loan spell at the King Power Stadium. He has since made 108 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 17 goals and providing 19 assists. There is little reason to suspect he won’t have a similar impact at Old Trafford.
