Manchester United prepared to spend £38million for Argentine star Cristian Romero
According to SportWitness via L’co Di Bergamo (h/t The Daily Star), Manchester United are readying a £38million bid for Serie A defender Cristian Romero.
The Argentine international has been excellent for Atalanta in a season where they finished third in Serie A. Romero made 42 appearances for the Italians across all competitions, scoring three goals and five assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
His performances have brought him to the attention of a number of top sides including United. An emerging defender yet to hit his peak, he could prove to be a long-term signing with a high ceiling.
Untied will however have to face off against arch-rivals Liverpool for Romero’s signature. According to the report, the Red Devils are leading the chase for the Argentine star. It would now appear they are ready to make their move.
Romero is a Juventus player on loan at Atalanta. The Bergamo club are however expected to take the option to make the deal permanent this summer. They then plan to sell him off for a profit. (h/t The Express)
It is no secret that United are in the market for a new centre-back this defender. While Romero is not the only player on our radar, he is one of the more economical ones. He represents a cheaper option than the likes of Jules Kounde, Ben White and Raphael Varane.
Liverpool have already signed Ibrahima Konate and will have the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomes and Joel Matip all set to return from injury. So whether they choose to go head to head against us for Romero remains to be seen.
