Manchester United star Paul Pogba could face punishment for breaching COVID-19 protocols at Euros
According to beIN Sports (h/t The Express), Manchester United star, Paul Pogba could face punishment for flouting COVID-19 regulations while at the European Championship with France.
The 28-year-old was the man of the match on the night as the French got off to a winning start against Germany. Pogba was the star man on the night and took the game by the scruff of the neck.
While a Matt Hummels own goal proved to be the difference on the night, it showed little of the gulf between the two sides. The World Champions were easily the better side.
A talking point on the night occurred after the match when Pogba was pictured climbing up into the stands to give someone his shirt. While this innocuous action might have been allowed pre-COVID, we now live in a different world.
According to the report, the Frenchman could have landed himself in hot soup for his antics. UEFA will now assess whether he was in breach of their strict COVID regulations that all players are needed to abide by.
It is fair to say that Pogba could have acted with more consideration. After all, may have put himself at risk by embracing those from outside the French bubble.
Now that the tournament is underway, any player who tests positive will not be able to return to the squad even after a negative test. Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo found that to his detriment last week and was replaced by United full-back Diogo Dalot.
Hopefully, Pogba’s actions will not have greater consequences and he too will take care to not repeat it for the duration of France’s stay in the competition.

Pogba’s performance was also a wake-up call to those who dismissed his allegations of being given more freedom while playing for France. The midfielder showed exactly what he can do in his preferred role and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will do well to take a note of the situation.
