Manchester United unlikely to bid for Erling Haaland this summer

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are not likely to make an offer for Borussia Dortmund star, Erling Haaland this summer.

The Norwegian wonderkid has gone from strength to strength in Germany and is amongst the best young players in world football. It can be argued that he is at this moment amongst the best strikers in the sport today.

United have been linked with him for years, coming close on a number of occasions. It now appears that the club will not be making an effort to land him this summer.

With Edinson Cavani extending his contract until 2022, United have a dependable striker to call upon for the upcoming campaign. While Anthony Martial can offer quality, whether it is enough to sustain a title charge is debatable.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had earlier admitted that United could still bring in a striker despite Cavani’s contract extension. As things stand, that man is unlikely to be Haaland.

The Red Devils will focus their attentions on other targets who can help them continue the upward trend next season.

Haaland’s contract expires at Dortmund in 2024. Curiously, he appears to have a release clause in his current deal, which could see the centre-forward be available for just £65m next year.

The Norwegian represents excellent value for that price and rest assured, we will not be the only team in the fray if it comes to that. Given he scored 41 goals and 12 assists in all competitions this past season, his quality is well known.
