Ole Gunnar Solskjaer calls upon Manchester United to keep hold of Paul Pogba
Speaking to TV2 (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has dropped a hint regarding the future of Paul Pogba at Manchester United.
The Frenchman’s contract at Old Trafford ends next year and so far there has no been resolution of the matter. With the prospect of losing him next year a real possibility, United have a major decision to make this summer.
While the Frenchman has struggled during his time at United, he has stepped up his game since the turn of the year. He played a big role in United’s unlikely Premier League title push and the run to the Europa League final.
Solskjaer recognizes the midfielder’s importance and is keen to ensure his best players stay at the club. The Norwegian is aware that quality will make a difference and is keen to give himself the best chance to succeed at United.
“We want the best players here, and the club knows what I want. I do not know how the dialogue goes, but if we are to fight for the best trophies, we must have the best players.”
Keeping Pogba will make Solskjaer’s job easier next season. The United boss is keen to strengthen his side and will have one less position to worry about if the Frenchman stays put.
Strength in depth!
Despite Edinson Cavani penning a new deal, Solskjaer has admitted that the club is keen to bring in another striker. Given that Anthony Martial is our only other option, the decision is prudent.
“I am very happy that it has happened, but that does not mean that we are not looking for someone who can challenge or learn from him.”
While it is debatable if we can bring in Harry Kane or Erling Haaland, adding strength in depth will be a welcome addition. With more options at his disposal, Solskjaer will also be able to handle his resources better over the course of the season.
