Juan Mata gives his verdict on Manchester United target Pau Torres
According to the club’s media outlet (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United veteran Juan Mata has given his appraisal of summer transfer target Pau Torres.
The Spanish international will line up against United this Wednesday in the Europa League final. It will give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a first-hand account of the defender’s capabilities.
According to the report, United view the final as the ultimate audition for the 24-year-old. The Red Devils are seeking a new centre-back and a good performance could convince them that Torres is their man.
Mata clearly has a high opinion of Villarreal and holds Torres in high esteem. The likes of Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood have been in good form of late. How they cope with Torres could decide the tie.
“They’ve got a great striker in Gerardo Moreno, they’ve got quality in the midfield, a very good centre-back in Pau Torres.”
Torres put in a heroic performance at the Emirates to keep Arsenal at bay in the second leg of the semifinals. The Yellow Submarine held onto a 0-0 draw to prevent an all-English final.
According to The Metro, Torres knows his side face a formidable foe in United and is looking forward to taking the field against us.
The Red Devils can land the 24-year-old if they pay the £43m release clause. According to the Express, Torres’ release clause rises to £57m for the last fortnight of the summer transfer window.
Moving quickly could very well save us a few millions in the summer transfer window.
