Manchester United welcomed back as many as 10,000 fans into the stadium for the first time in 14 months, for our final home game of the season against Fulham.
And the team started off very well with Edinson Cavani scoring a screamer to set things off in the first period. However, a failure to create and convert chances over the course of the game meant Fulham were able to come back as Joe Bryan headed home in the second half to make it 1-1.
The result means Manchester United failed to confirm second spot on the table while the preparations are hardly ideal for the UEFA Europa League final against Villarreal in a week’s time.
Nevertheless, following the game, Solskjaer looked upbeat as he took the mic to address the fans within the stadium. During his speech, the Norwegian insisted that the team will try to bring home a trophy before the season ends
“It is great to have you back in and supporting the team. We know it’s been a long, long year for everyone, but I am so so grateful to see you back in supporting everyone. It’s been great working with these boys. They are a great group of lads, players, the staff.
“I know that we are not where we want to be in the league but hopefully we will bring you a trophy back in about 10 days time. So we’ll do whatever we can and hopefully next year we will see everybody on the seats again. So all the best, support the team and a safe trip back home.”

The performance was far from ideal from the team on the night. While there were moments of quality every now and then, the final end product was lacking. The defence, too, hardly looked assured without captain Harry Maguire.
Manchester United take on Wolves away from home at the weekend before the showpiece event vs Villarreal in Gdansk. Hopefully, the team is able to get back on track by then.
