Edinson Cavani wonder strike saw Manchester United set a new Premier League record
According to the club’s official channel, Edinson Cavani wrote his name into the Manchester United history books with his 40-yard lob against Fulham on Tuesday.
With fans back in attendance, it was a special moment for the Uruguayan. He welcomed back the supporters with a goal that took the breath away in what is his first appearance in front of them.
The strike took him to 10 goals in 26 league games this campaign. Four of those have come since the beginning of April.
Cavani is now the 25th different United player to net double-digit figures in a league season since 1992. This according to Opta (h/t Man Utd), moves us one clear of Arsenal in the Premier League rankings.
United also become the first team this season to have three players score on 10 or more occasions. Cavani’s strike sees him rub shoulders with Bruno Fernandes (18 goals) and Marcus Rashford (11 goals) in this season’s goal tally. (h/t Man Utd)
The Uruguayan has stepped up impressively in the absence of Anthony Martial in the last two months. He scored key goals against AS Roma and has led the line with aplomb.
The 34-year-old recently penned an extension that will keep him at the club until 2022. Given what was on show against Fulham, it is safe to say that more of the same could be on offer next season.

Cavani was perhaps fortuitous to grab the goal against Fulham. He looked to be offside in the lead-up to the strike but VAR eventually ruled in his favour.
One cannot take anything away from his strike, which was a thing of beauty. He is proving himself to be a very shrewd signing indeed.
