Manchester United star Edinson Cavani set for a financial windfall if he leads the club’s scoring charts next season
According to The Sun, Manchester United will hand Edinson Cavani a hefty bonus if he ends next season as the club’s leading goalscorer.
The 34-year-old, despite his age, has emerged as a key player for United this season. With 15 goals and six assists in 37 appearances, he has stepped up and delivered in Anthony Martial’s absence.
United were keen to keep him and Cavani acceeded by penning fresh terms earlier this week.
The 34-year-old is compensated well for his services and is the club’s fourth top earner. He will earn a lot more provided he tops the club’s scoring charts.
As per the report, Cavani will earn himself an impressive £100,000 if he ends next season as our top scorer. He will also earn himself a similar amount if he wins the Premier League golden boot.
The Red Devils are also set to offer a rolling review of the player’s season, offering him a chance to extend his stay by another year. Despite his age, Cavani has proven himself a dependable player and United are keen to milk that last bit out of him.
Numbers don’t lie!
Finishing as the club’s top scorer will be a tough ask given how things have gone this season. While Cavani has done well, both Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford are ahead of him in the scoring charts.
Interestingly, however, Cavani boasts a better strike rate than his teammates. The 34-year-old averages a goal every 123 minutes, a number superior to the 190 minutes and 156 minutes displayed by Rashford and Fernandes respectively.
There is every chance he could stand a chance of topping the goalscoring charts if he begins the season as our first-choice striker. Whether that is the case remains to be seen.
