Manchester United make contact with Getafe to sign Mauro Arambarri

According to transfer news from AS (h/t Metro), Manchester United have made contact with Getafe over a possible move for midfielder Mauro Arambarri.

The report claims that United are off to strengthening other areas of the pitch given the striker position is now sorted with the new deal for Edinson Cavani.

Manchester United are in need of strengthening various positions on the pitch. Right-wing is one area that needs improvement. United have also been touted to sign a right-back.

Now, it looks like we are keen to reinforce the midfield too. Midfield has been an area of concern given how we have been exposed at times this season. The latest example is the 4-2 loss to Liverpool this midweek.

Hence, it only makes sense for us to pursue a midfielder.

Arambarri has a release clause of €25m and has three goals in 34 appearances for Getafe this season. Atletico Madrid are also interested in the 25-year-old Uruguayan star, who is Cavani’s compatriot.

Though the likes of Fred and McTominay have done decently well, they’ve lacked consistency. Moreover, they cannot seem to function without each other, which disrupts the team dynamics and forces Solskjaer’s hand.

Matic, on the other hand, is in the final stage of his career. Surely, Manchester United need a long-term successor for Matic, who has been dependable for us over the years.

With Atletico Madrid linked with Arambarri too, it remains to be seen if we will have our way. A release clause of €25m seems modest in the current financial climate. If Solskjaer deems the player worthy enough to don the United jersey, there’s no reason why the club shouldn’t sign him.
