Solskjaer hopeful that Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire will be fit for
According to The Guardian, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains hopeful that his skipper Harry Maguire will return to fitness ahead of the Europa League final against Villarreal.
With just 14 days to go for the showpiece event in Gdansk, United have been rocked by the news that their best defender will not feature in the Premier League again this season.
This is thanks to a freak injury he received against Aston Villa when Edinson Cavani’s tackle flung Anwar El Ghazi at Maguire’s legs. Scans have since revealed the Englishman to have injured his ankle ligaments.
Although Maguire avoided the worst of it, his injury remains serious enough. Solskjaer has since confirmed that the defender did not suffer a fracture.
“The good news is it wasn’t broken, there was no fracture, but of course a ligament injury is serious.”
With time running out, Maguire’s chances of getting back to full fitness ahead of the final remain suspect. United will do what they can to get him ready for the showpiece event, but it is far from given if that will prove to be the case.
“If I’m very positive, and that’s maybe stretching it, I’m hopeful he might be ready for it. I don’t think he’ll play in the league again but we’ll do everything we can to get him ready for the final.”
A shared concern!
Solskjaer is not the only manager sweating given the injury update. England boss Gareth Southgate too is now in a spot of a bother given his ace defender’s injury.
Solskjaer hinted that it is possible that the player could make the trip for the European Championships if he makes an appearance for us again this season.

Maguire is easily our best defender and his absence will leave behind a hole both in terms of ability and leadership. It would be better if he did make it to the final against Villarreal. However, forcing a half-fit player to take the field would be filled in poor taste.
