Ole Gunnar Solskjaer calls upon Manchester United to invest in the squad

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer watched on as a much-changed Manchester United side fell to Leicester City in the Premier League fixture at Old Trafford earlier today.

Despite knowing that any faint hopes we had of Premier League glory depended on us getting all three points, the Norwegian played a weak side on the night.

While one can defend Solskjaer’s decision, it also showcases the strength in depth that we lack to challenge Manchester City.

The United boss for one was well aware of it. According to BT Sports (h/t The Metro), he has now called upon the club to improve their squad going into next season.

“If you want to take up the challenge with them we need to strengthen our squad.”

Solskjaer was gracious in conceding defeat to City but also expressed pride in his players who clung on so far. Pep Guardiola’s side are amongst the best in Europe and United, for all their issues, have shown they have the appetite for a fight.

The next step!

Solskjaer has now set his sights on next season and believes key additions can help his side leap log their noisy neighbours.

“We want to take the next step and it might be that we need a couple more to strengthen the squad.”

United have shown much improvement this season and are on course to finish second. The board now face a massive summer where they have been handed a god-given opportunity to enhance their weapons.

Whether they choose to pay heed to their manager’s advice remains to be seen.
