Transfer News: Manchester United remain keen on Harry Kane despite Edinson Cavani extension

According to Football Insider, Manchester United remain interested in signing Harry Kane despite having recently extended the contract of Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguayan international put an end to speculation regarding his future by penning fresh terms yesterday. His presence will give the United attack more bite heading into the new season.

It is no secret that the Red Devils are in the market for a striker. They remain focussed on adding one with Tottenham Hotspur’s Kane firmly in their sights.

Edinson Cavani has signed on for another year at United

The English skipper is one of the most prolific strikers of the age but has failed to transform individual plaudits into trophies at Spurs. Currently 27, Kane is in his prime and may be angling for a move.

While it does not appear that he will look to force a move, Kane remains hopeful that Daniel Levy will at least consider the offers made for him. Valued at over £100million, the Red Devils will have to smash their club record to land the man.

Signing him would give United the opportunity to deploy Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood out wide. The club’s coaching staff believe the three are better off on the wing.

Kane still has three years to go on his current deal and Tottenham hold the high ground when it comes to negotiations. According to an earlier report, they remain hopeful that he will stay put for another season.

A loyal player, Kane has given much to Tottenham without getting the same in return. While personal records are well and good, the lack of trophies is a major blot on his otherwise illustrious career.

With 21 goals and 13 assists, Kane leads the Premier League in both goals and assists this season. While Jose Mourinho may have his faults, one had to admit that he turned the striker into a better-rounded player under his guidance. Whether Untied will reap its benefits now remains to be seen.
