Jesse Lingard set for Manchester United return as West Ham struggle to finance deal
According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard books set to return to Old Trafford in the summer.
The 28-year-old is currently on loan at Premier League side West Ham United. He has enjoyed a fruitful spell with the Hammers, scoring nine times and assisting four more in just 13 appearances. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The Englishman’s form has won him admirers at West Ham who are keen to sign him on permanently. However they are not in a position to meet the player’s demands thanks to the financial aftershocks of the coronavirus pandemic.
The player for his part has demanded a four-year contract worth in excess of £100,000 per week. It will make him one of the top earners at the club.
Lingard’s decision to move to West Ham in search of regular football has proven to be an inspired choice. After all, he was little more than a bit-part player at United.
The Englishman’s performances have also seen him garner interest from national team boss Gareth Southgate.
The 28-year-old played in all of England’s World Cup qualifiers in March and is expected to be named in the squad for the European Championship. A thought considered unfathomable just months ago.
Now or never?
Any move West Ham make will have Lingard’s blessing. The attacker has grown frustrated with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s distrust of him and is keen to leave in search of regular game time.
The Red Devils will make a decision on Lingard’s future at the end of the season. Not only is his stock at an all-time high but he also has just one year left on his deal at United.
United are keen to strengthen the squad this summer. Selling Lingard for top dollar would certainly help in that endeavour.
