Manchester United star Harry Maguire a major doubt for upcoming Premier League clashes
According to The Sun, Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire is facing a race against time to be fit for the Europa League final against Villarreal.
The Englishman was taken off injured during our 3-1 win over Aston Villa at the weekend. It ended an impressive stretch of 71 straight Premier League games for the club where he had played all 90 minutes.
Maguire is the club’s lone automatic starter at centre-back and his absence would be a huge blow. With him gone, it will add much more pressure onto the others tasked with guarding the United goal.
Maguire is currently waiting for scans of his injury. Hopefully, the results will not be as bad as feared and the player will return to action sooner than expected.
However, he is ruled out of our upcoming twin header at home against Leicester City and Liverpool. The onus will now be on Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly to step up and be counted.
Maguire’s injury is also a concern for Gareth Southgate going into this summer’s Euros. The defender is a mainstay for England just as he is for United.
With just over a fortnight to go, Maguire can retain hope of making the showpiece event at Gdansk. More will be made clear once the results of his scan are out.
