Manchester United to offer Edinson Cavani an impressive £250k per week to stay for another season
According to The Sun, Manchester United are set to offer Edinson Cavani a lucrative contract worth £250,000 per week in order for him to sign on for another year.
The 34-year-old joined the club last summer on a one-year deal. His performances have, however, left a mark and United are keen to tie him down for another year.
With just weeks left on his current deal, Cavani has been heavily linked with a return to South America. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held talks with the player and it would appear that the signs are not encouraging.
United hope the lucrative new offer will help swing the deal in their favour. The Uruguayan currently earns £200,000-a-week at Old Trafford. While the Red Devils have the option for a one-year extension, it cannot be triggered without the player’s approval.
The 34-year-old has now scored eight goals from his last seven appearances in all competitions. This has boosted United hopes of finishing second in the Premier League and also securing the Europa League title.
More so, he has had a positive influence on the squad off the field as well. If anything, it adds to United’s keenness to keep him on for another year.
Interestingly, Cavani took a 35 per cent pay cut when he arrived at Old Trafford on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer. The signing-on fee of around £6m, however, did help ease over matters. (h/t The Sun)
The pandemic has put Cavani in a difficult position with him being away from his family. They are expected to play a key role in the player’s decision.

With Anthony Martial struggling, United are currently in the market for a new striker. However, the likes of either Erling Haaland or Harry Kane will not come cheap.
Keeping Cavani would ideally open up more possibilities, not to mention give us a short-term option that is both proven and dependable. Whether it does come to pass remains to be seen.
