Aston Villa urged to make a move for Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe
Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Birmingham Mail), former English international Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Aston Villa to make a move for Manchester United star Axel Tuanzebe.
The 23-year-old is effectively the fourth-choice centre-back at United this season. He is behind the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the Red Devils pecking order.
Agbonlahor believes the Englishman would play a bigger role at Villa Park and push the starters already at the club.
“All day long. He’s the sort of player that would push the two Villa centre-halves at the moment.”
A promising player, Tuanzebe’s pace coupled with his versatility to also start at right-back adds to his appeal. It is difficult to point out deficiencies in the player’s game given that he has done well when given the opportunity. However, he is far from being a regular at Old Trafford.
Tuanzebe is no stranger at Villa Park either. The youngster enjoyed an earlier spell out on loan in 2017/18 and 2018/19, helping the Midlands side gain promotion to the Premier League. He made 35 appearances for them across two seasons.
“He’s got great pace, he’s a great player and he’s played at Aston Villa before. He can play at right-back too so he can fill in at that position.
“One hundred per cent, it’s something Villa should be looking at.”
Better opportunities elsewhere!
Agbonlahor hopes Villa will take advantage of Tuanzebe’s situation at United to make their move. It is difficult to see the player convert himself into a regular starter anytime soon at Old Trafford.
At 23, Tuanzebe should be playing regularly but has made just 15 appearances for the club all season. Agbonlahor believes that the player should be unhappy with his situation and will consider his future in the summer.
“He’s got to look at his own career now and the amount of appearances he’s making. I’m sure he’ll be wanting to leave in the summer and that would be a great signing.”

An accomplished player at the youth level, Tuanzebe’s senior career has been blighted by injuries. He had earlier won the Jimmy Murphy U18s Player of the Year in 2015 and the Denzil Haroun Reserves Player of the Year in 2017.
Also capable of playing as a holding midfielder, the Englishman had earlier been compared to Javi Martinez and Eric Bailly.
