Manchester United fans react as the Hut Group pulls out of a lucrative £200m training kit deal
According to The Guardian, Manchester United have been dealt a financial blow as The Hut Group backed out of a new training kit deal worth £200m over 10 years.
Their decision to do so comes in the wake of growing anti-Glazer sentiment amidst fans. Not only have supporters been taking to the streets to protest but have also targeted the club’s sponsors to amplify their reach.
A major domino now appears to have fallen in the form of the Hut Group. It was revealed by the club’s managing director, Richard Arnold, THG had pulled out of a contract which was due to start on 1 July.
It represents a victory for the #NOTAPENNYMORE campaign that is gaining traction among fans online. The aim of the movement is to boycott the club’s major partners including Adidas, TAG Heuer and Cadbury among others.
According to the report, THG was concerned that as a local business, they would become an easy target for disgruntled fans. AON’s agreement expires on 30 June and United may struggle to strike a new deal of similar value to that proposed with THG.
The fan movements are certainly hitting the Glazers where it hurts. Perhaps this is a reason why the notoriously quiet Joel Glazer put out a statement on Friday.
What this means in the larger scheme of things remains to be seen. We take a look at how some fans reacted to the news on Twitter.

Very bad short term. Likely they won’t spend much in the team.
That’s absolutely amazing lads! Keep it up, the sponsors are backing. #NotAPennyMore #GlazersOut

The club isn’t worth 4 billion if it starts losing all its sponsors 😏

Hitting the owners where it hurts seeing as they only care about the money. Good news.

I consider it great. The club can easily seal another deal, yet a message that fans are influencing and Glazers are not trusted even in business is clear.
