Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hits out at the PL for hectic fixture list
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally broken his semi-final hoodoo with Manchester United, leading his side to the Europa League final.
However as matters now shift to domestic commitments, the Norwegian has to confront a brutal reality. The Red Devils will now have to play three Premier League clashes in just six days.
According to The Guardian, Solskjaer has hit out at those who have put his side in a sticky spot.
“It’s unheard of. It is made by people who’ve never played football at this level. It’s physically impossible for the players to do it after being here, [and then] playing Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday. “
The Red Devils travel to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa on the 9th of May before facing Leicester City on the 11th at Old Trafford. They then cap off the list by facing Liverpool at home on the 13th.
While morale may be high at United, the team is coming off what has been a long and brutal season. The fixture pile-up will now be a test to Solskjaer and his squad management skills.
“We’ve not been dealt a good hand but we’ll have to play it as well as we can.”
Fans to blame?
Perhaps ironically, United fans played their part in making life harder for the team. The game against Liverpool was supposed to go ahead on 2nd May but was postponed after fans stormed Old Trafford.
The Premier League did attempt to make life easy for United but were left with no other choice than to reschedule it to next week. Thanks to a few overzealous fans, the team now have to take up the brunt of their physical exertions.
Thankfully, apart from Anthony Martial and Phil Jones, we do not have any major injuries. Solskjaer will do well to ensure his players aren’t overexerted in the lead-up to the Europa League final.
