Jose Mourinho eyeing Manchester United star Donny van de Beek
According to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato (h/t Sport Witness), Jose Mourinho has his eyes set on Manchester United star Donny van de Beek.
The 58-year-old former United boss was recently fired by Tottenham Hotspur. He did not remain unemployed for long and was soon snapped up by AS Roma.
While he will only take over the Serie A giants at the end of the season, Mourinho appears to be planning ahead. Among the players on his radar iis Van de Beek who has struggled at United.
The Dutchman was out marquee signing last summer. However he has failed to convert himself to a first-team regular and has largely come on as a substitute.
As per the report, a move for the 24-year-old will cost Roma around €30m. It also goes on to add that Mourinho developed a relationship with the player while in England.
Considering that neither was at United at the same time, the extent of their ‘friendship’ could be considered suspect.
This is not the first time that Van de Beek has been linked with Roma. In fact, it was reported last month that United was willing to let go of the Dutchman provided they could get Nicolo Zaniolo in exchange.
The Italians understandably refused. It now remains to be seen if a cash-only deal will see him make the move to Rome.
