What Manchester United fans at Old Trafford told Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United fans protesting against the Glazers at Old Trafford had the opportunity to talk to Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.
A number of fans managed to get into Old Trafford and protested on the turf. This led to our match against Liverpool being postponed amidst security concerns.
Neville and Carragher, both of who work for Sky Sports, were pictured talking to the protestors. The duo later went on to defend the movement against the Glazers.
Carragher, a Liverpool legend is privy to fan protests during his time at Anfield. Liverpool fans undertook similar protests that saw them oust Tom Hicks and George Gillet from the ownership positions in 2010.
The Merseyside star believes similar frustrations were on show at the Theatre of Dreams yesterday. He believes the issue at hand takes precedence over the football rivalry.
“The frustration with the ownership and I must say I’m obviously a Liverpool supporter in this stadium with Manchester United fans coming past me, but I do think in this situation, football rivalry goes out of this.”
Only themselves to blame!
Carragher believes fans’ resentment is not something spontaneous. The Glazers have never been liked at Old Trafford and the hen is finally coming home to roost.
“They’re very unhappy with their owners, not just of what they’re doing in terms of buying a striker, or buying a player in the summer, I think as supporters and how they’ve been treated at this club and how they’ve gone about it.”
Carragher is under no doubt that the Glazers are the ones responsible for the protests. If anything, the fans are just standing up to protect what they love.
“Football means a lot for a lot of people and Manchester as much as anybody. A peaceful protest and they’ve only got themselves to blame, the ownership.”

Both Carragher and Neville agree that the protests were peaceful. A report by The Telegraph however says otherwise.
A member of the Manchester United Supporters Trust admitted that the protest had “been taken over by thugs”. Whether it was a deliberate attempt to undermine the movement remains to be seen.
