Manchester United do not appear to be among the clubs favoured by Erling Haaland
According to Spanish outlet AS (h/t Metro), Manchester United have been dealt a severe blow in their pursuit of Erling Haaland.
The Borussia Dortmund star is one of the best young forwards in the game today. A highly sought after player, Haaland has attracted attention from some of the biggest names in European football.
United’s interest in Haaland is not new. The Red Devils have been aware of the player’s talents since his time at Molde and missed out twice on signing him before. It would appear that we might fall short once again this summer.
This is because Mino Raiola, the player’s agent, no close friend of Unitedm has named Barcelona and Real Madrid as the teams that have caught Haaland’s fancy.
“When a club like Barcelona or Real Madrid comes in for you, with so much history and being such a big club, it’s hard to say no.”
Both the Spanish clubs are in not great shape financially, but Raiola believes Los Blancos have what it takes to make a financial commitment for Haaland.
“I don’t know if Real Madrid can afford him, because I haven’t studied their books. But I think they can. I think they all can.”
The two prerequisites!
Interestingly, Raiola goes on to name a number of other top clubs including Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. Curiously enough, no English side including United was mentioned.
The superagent believes two factors will influence Haaland’s decision – the hunger to score more goals and the opportunity to win trophies. While the former can be accomplished at United, the latter could also be on the plate a year down the line.
“Haaland is interested in two things. Scoring goals, because he’s a little bit like Cristiano or Zlatan… it’s his obsession, in a positive way. And winning titles. No doubt he’ll pick somewhere where he feels those two things go together best for him.”
The Red Devils have improved under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and are on the verge of emerging as a top-quality side. Adding Haaland to the mix would certainly make the Norwegian’s job easier.

Signing Haaland would be akin to United adding a Rolls Royce to their squad. The Norwegian has what it takes to become the best striker on the planet and the Red Devils would be pulling off a coup if they can secure him. Whether that happens remains to be seen.
