The Holy Trinity statue featuring club legends George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton outside Old Trafford is one of the enduring monuments to the legacy of Manchester United in English football.

Set outside the Theatre of Dreams, it represents three players who played a key role in the club’s rise to glory and are iconic names in the sport. The monument looks set to play a pivotal role tonight in what is yet another defining moment in the club’s history.

The trio helped Matt Busby to rebuild the club following the 1958 Munich air crash, eventually winning the European Cup 10 years later.

Around 10,000 fans are expected to gather outside Old Trafford later tonight in the buildup to our game against Liverpool. This show of force is aimed against the Glazers and their mismanagement of the club under their ownership.

According to the Daily Mail, organizers are set to provide security for the Holy Trinity statue amidst the gathering. This comes after some supporters adorned the statue with green and gold scarves during last week’s protest.

The eyes of the world are on Old Trafford especially so when Liverpool are the visitors on the night. The last thing we need for a fans movement to derail is for something to go amiss with an iconic club monument with a global audience in attendance.

Better safe than sorry!

While we do not believe that any fan would wantonly damage the statue, one cannot count of a minority may be getting overzealous. While it may not be needed, the organizers’ precautionary step is welcome.

A strong statement attacking the Glazers is scheduled to be read out in front of the statue at 3 pm, an hour-and-a-half before kick-off. If last week was anything to go by, fans should be out in force.

The Glazers took over United in 2005 and have remained as unpopular as ever amongst the club’s faithful supporters. During their reign, more than £1billion has been drained from United in bank fees and dividend payments. (h/t Daily Mail)

The club for their part have acknowledged that the fans have the right to stage a peaceful protest and are planning accordingly. Hopefully the point can be made without any untoward incident.
