Fabrizio Romano: Edinson Cavani ready to pen fresh terms at Manchester United
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Edinson Cavani is open to extending his contract at Manchester United.
The 34-year-old has just months to go before his current one year deal at Old Trafford comes to an end. Given his performances, the club is keen to keep him on for another.
Although there is a clause in his contract, it can only come into force if both sides agree to it. Although there is nothing signed yet, there is now increasing confidence that he will pen fresh terms.
Cavani was once again amongst the scorers against AS Roma. His brace on the night helped turn around a first-half deficit en route to a 6-2 win.
Speaking after the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that he will do what it takes to keep the veteran striker for another season. It would appear he will get just that.
With 12 goals in 33 games, Cavani is the club’s third-highest scorer this season. It is fair to say that he has proven himself to be a shrewd acquisition who has stepped up and delivered when needed.
Despite his age, he still has at least another year at the top left in him. Keeping him on would be a massive boost for us, especially given our need to bring in a striker this summer.
Cavani’s stay at United has not been without controversy. He was banned for three games after being found guilty of making a racially insensitive post earlier in the season.
