Manchester United hope ending the campaign with a trophy will convince Edinson Cavani to stay on
Manchester United made a masterstroke when they landed Edinson Cavani on a free on summer deadline day last year.
The Uruguayan veteran has stepped up when needed and has largely been an excellent backup striker to call upon. He currently has just months left on his contract as the uncertainity over his future continues.
According to the Daily Mail, United are keen to keep him and hope winning a trophy this season will help them do just that.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is aware that the 34-year-old is keen on returning to South America having endured a difficult year in England off the pitch.
The Norwegian has, however, not thrown in the towel yet and remains convinced he can change the Uruguayan’s mind. He believes Cavani would do well to extend for another year and enjoy support from fans in the stands, more freedom in his social life and a potential Premier League title challenge.
“He wants a successful end to the season and that might sway him because he knows I love working with him.”
“He knows I’d love to see him play in front of the Man United fans at Old Trafford. It will be the year when we can get the fans back in and it’s important that he makes the decision not with anything else in mind.”
With Anthony Martial out injured, the onus is now on Cavani to step up and make himself counted. He did just that in our wins over Granada, Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley. With key games still to come, the Uruguayan will be called upon more to work his magic.

United are currently in the semifinals of the Europa League and stand a good chance of winning the competition. Hopefully having experienced glory with the club, Cavani will be keen to taste it again next season.
Cavani’s presence doesn’t just add experience to an underperforming attack. In fact, it has also rubbed off on young starlet Mason Greenwood as he continues to impress in the top-flight.
The duo share a good relationship and spending another season under Cavani’s guidance will do the 19-year-old a world of good.
