Manchester United foil attempt by Leeds United fans to attack team bus outside Elland Road
Manchester United and Leeds United are long and bitter rivals whose matches are never short of talking points.
It would, however, appear that a rather unfortunate one scheduled to occur tonight has been nipped in the bud. According to the Mirror, United are in touch with West Yorkshire Police following information that their team bus is supposed to be attacked.
Tensions are running high following United’s role in forming the controversial European Super League. It adds yet another caveat to a rivalry with Leeds that can be described as fierce at it’s mildest.
Liverpool players and staff were met with boos when they arrived at Elland Road last week. A repeat of that is not outside the scope. Although the destruction of property may not be on the agenda anymore.
The authorities are also monitoring social media channels and fan sites to avoid a potential flashpoint when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his stars arrive at the stadium later tonight.
The United bus was attacked by West Ham United fans outside Boleyn Ground back in 2016. Missiles were launched at the bus, causing it damage and forcing authorities to delay the match that night.
No love lost on the pitch!
It will not just be Leeds fans but also their players who will be out to make a point. Especially so given the 6-2 humiliation, they had to endure in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford.
A win will see United retain whatever little hope they have in the Premier League title race. Leeds meanwhile have little to play for. But as we have seen in such fixtures, playing for bragging rights is huge motivation.

Given the backlash United have received for their role in the Super League fiasco, it would not be a surprise to see us face off against angry crowds at games for the remainder of the season.
Hopefully, these protests do not cross the line and try to bodily harm the players and staff or damage property.
