Lee Grant to leave Manchester United after contract U-turn

According to Daily Mail, Lee Grant will leave Manchester United after the club withdrew its offer of an extension. It was expected that the third-choice keeper would be signing a one-year extension, with his contract set to end this season.

Grant was one of the few arrivals in 2018 under Jose Mourinho. It was never expected that the former Stoke City keeper would be challenging for the spot much, with De Gea and Romero as the first and second choice.

The same played out as Grant has only made two competitive appearances for United in his three-year stay. He has been more of a mentor and has helped in training the likes of De Gea and Henderson. Grant was content with a third-choice role and never complained much.

As the goalkeeping situation bubbles at United with Dean Henderson battling De Gea for the first spot, Grant was expected to stay at least for another season as the third choice. However, United seemed to have reversed their decision on an extension, meaning that he will leave the club in June.

The 38-year old has been a popular member of the squad and his mates will be sad to see him go. That produces another problem for the club in the sense that they will have no third-choice keeper and might have to make a decision on the same.
