Solskjaer gunning for Manchester United to sign Miralem Pjanic
According to Fichajes.net, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged the club to sign Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic.
While Brazilian ace Fred has formed a formidable partnership with Scott McTominay in the United midfield, the United boss remains unsure if it is the way forward.
This coupled with Paul Pogba’s uncertain future and Nemanja Matic’s age, Solskjaer is kene to bring in reinforcements this summer.
The Norwegian believes Pjanic is the ideal player to give Untied what they need. The 31-year-old spent nine fruitful years in Serie A before moving to the Nou Cap last summer.
He has however failed to impress the Catalans and has struggled under Ronald Koeman. The Bosnian has so far made 28 appearances for the club but is yet to register a single goal contribution. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Solskjaer however remains undeterred and believes Pjanic would thrive alongside McTominay. While the 31-year-old’s ability is not in question, it is debatable if he is at his best.
Makes little sense!
United’s interest however is dependent on Pogba’s decision on his future. A move for Pjanic will only be considered in case the French ace decides to depart Old Trafford.
A major weakness in the Fred-McTominay partnership is the lack of offensive contributions made by the duo. Pjanic is certainly a better creator but he does lack the engine that either player brings to the middle of the park.
Not to mention, at 31, the player is going to be a little more than a glorified pensioner. While he may still prove us wrong, the Pjanic currently plying his trade at Barcelona is a far cry from the one who dominated the midfield while at Juventus.

A versatile midfielder who can fulfil a variety of roles, Pjanic has played a key role in Juventus’ domination of Serie A. He has won 100 caps for his country, while also scoring 15 goals.
An excellent player in his prime, United would have been better off making a move for him five years ago. For now, it is better we look elsewhere.
