Transfer News: Manchester United interested in Alessio Romagnoli

According to news from Fichajes.net (h/t SempreMilan), Manchester United are interested in a transfer for AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli in the upcoming summer window.

The 26-year-old Romagnoli has been with Milan since 2015 and has since grown into one of the top defenders in Serie A. Appointed the club captain ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, the Italian international is an integral member of the side.

However, Romagnoli has seen his game-time reduce since the arrival of Fikayo Tomori on loan in January. In addition, the centre-backs’s contract with Milan runs out at the end of the next season. And, there has been little progress in the way of a new deal being offered.

As a result, Romagnoli is said to have grown frustrated at Milan and could decide to move on in the summer. A number of clubs, including Manchester United, have now taken an interest in the development.

It is no secret at this point that the Red Devils are scouring the transfer market for a new defensive signing. Over the past few months, Manchester United have been linked with a host of names like Raphael Varane, among many others.

Romagnoli, though, could prove to be a cheaper alternative given his contract situation. At the same time, him being left-footed could also appeal to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is keen on signing a defender of that characteristic.

Manchester United, though, will have to face stern competition from Barcelona, who are said to be in pole position to sign Romagnoli. In addition, Juventus are also interested in the centre-back and could propose a swap deal involving Federico Bernardeschi. (h/t SempreMilan)

Signing Romagnoli would also require us to deal with the notorious Mino Raiola, who represents the 26-year-old Italian international.
