Robbie Fowler urges Harry Kane to move to Manchester United

Writing in his column in the Mirror (h/t Manchester Evening News), Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has urged Harry Kane to move to Manchester United.

The 27year-old’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is far from secure. Despite scoring a bucketful of goals for them, Spurs have failed to translate Kane’s performances into trophies.

With him currently in his prime, speculation regarding his future at the Lane continues to grow. As Tottenham have shown against us last week, they still have ways to go before considering themselves challengers.

Fowler was one of the finest strikers in his day before injuries took away his X-factor. While Kane has now overtaken the former Liverpool man in the all-time Premier League scorers list, he has also earned himself an unwanted record.

“He’s now scored 20-plus league goals in five different seasons, and only Alan Shearer, Sergio Aguero and Thierry Henry have done that. They’re legends…and Champions.”

He is now the highest-scoring player yet to win the Premier League trophy. While he still has time on his side, it is at this moment in time difficult to see him achieve success at Tottenham.

“Will he win a title at Spurs? Unlikely. They’re not going to even make the Champions League next season, so they’re a long way short. And they may even be looking at a new manager again in the summer. Which could mean more years of rebuilding…and waiting.”

Of regrets and possibilities!

Fowler points out that Kane may look back at his career in the future and wonder if a move away would have brought him more success. He has gone on to name United as one of the sides which can help him achieve that.

“There will be clubs interested too. Manchester United have been mentioned, strongly. And City too. Both would be strong options for him, no doubt. He could be the missing ingredient United need to take that final step.”

A major obstacle in us signing Kane will be Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. He is not just demanding a mammoth fee for Kane but is also hesitant to sell to a direct rival.

Fowler’s former strike partner Michael Owen only won a league title after he moved to Old Trafford. Given United and Kane’s needs, both could fit each other well.

The English skipper will have a stellar supporting cast behind him while the Red Devils will land themselves the infallible scorer they crave. It is in many ways a marriage made in heaven. But then one can always count on Levy to turn up and oppose the union.
