Manchester United News: Teden Mengi loan stay at Derby County could be extended

According to news from Metro, Manchester United youngster Teden Mengi could extend his stay at Derby County as there is an agreement in place. Our former star and current Derby manager Wayne Rooney confirmed the same.

One of United’s highest-rated youngsters, Mengi is held in high regard at United. He joined Derby back in February. Currently managed by United legend Wayne Rooney, the Championship side are keen to rebuild their side. The Rams have been left depleted by departures amidst financial concerns.

Teden Mengi is a talented young player

Mengi has been training regularly with United’s first-team squad. He made his debut in the Europa League against LASK last August. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to help out Rooney and believes he can aid Mengi in his development.

Despite being just 18, the youngster has shown enough potential to suggest there is something special in him. The talent, however, needs to be honed and there is only so much that can be achieved by playing in the reserves.

Mengi has already played 7 times for Derby this season. Rooney hopes that he can keep him for another season.

‘Teden will play more games for us, he is a player I am hoping to keep here for next season. He has gone from playing Under-23 football to playing competitive football where there is a lot at stake. He is getting a good amount of minutes, but it is important I protect him as well.’

More News:

It does look like a better decision to stay back at Derby and continue developing. United already have a few names in defence and Mengi would not get much game time.

As long as he receives enough game time, the deal will see everyone benefit. Hopefully, he will return to the club a better player.
