Transfer News: Manchester United ready to sell seven players in the summer transfer window
According to the news outlet The Mirror, it promises to be a busy summer transfer window at Manchester United as the club prepares to sell as many as seven players in a massive squad overhaul.
The Red Devils have shown great promise in recent seasons but have been unable to make it count in terms of trophies. United are still a few signings away from challenging for the top spot.
With that in mind, the club goes into the summer well aware of the importance their moves can have in the seasons to come.
The ageing quartet of Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata, Sergio Romero and Lee Grant are all out of contract in the summer. All four of them are expected to move on and call an end on their time at Old Trafford.
Apart from them, the club also plan to rid themselves of seven other players. The most prominent name among them is that of last summer’s big money signing, Donny van de Beek.
The Dutchman has failed to impress and has largely been a squad player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Still just 23, it remains to be seen if the club are willing to cut their losses after a solitary season.
Loanees and fringe players!
Others in the fray include four players who are currently out on loan. The quartet of Tahith Chong, Diogo Dalot, Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard could all make way for new recruits. Of the four, Lingard is the most sellable asset given he has impressed mightily at West Ham United.
The summer is also set to bring to a close Phil Jones’ difficult spell at the Theatre of Dreams. The English international fell prey to injuries and has so far failed to reach the levels expected of him.
Another player on his way out could be youngster Brandon Williams. Luke Shaw’s improved form coupled with the arrival of Alex Telles has severely limited the player’s time on the field this season. It remains to be seen if Solskjaer will choose to part ways with him come summer.

Getting rid of squad players and lowering the wage bill counts for little unless we can bring in the right players. In this regard, the club has to be just as astute when it comes to signings.
