Valencia offered the chance to sign Manchester United outcast Sergio Romero
According to Spanish outlet Plaza Deportiva, Valencia has identified Manchester United outcast Sergio Romero as a potential solution to their goalkeeping conundrum.
Los Ches are looking to move on current No.1 Jasper Cillessen in the summer. Romero, currently out of favour at United, is one of the options they are looking at.
The Spaniards already have an offer on the table to sign Romero and the Argentine provides them with an enticing option. Valencia’s dire financial situation means they can at best sign free agents or opt for loan deals.
With Romero’s contract at Old Trafford set to expire in the summer, they could bag the 34-year-old on a free transfer.
The veteran goalkeeper has had offers from both South America and the United States but is keen to remain in Europe for family reasons.
A return to his homeland in Argentina is not completely off the table. However, it is likely to be with Racing and not Boca juniors.
A dependable player!
Signed in 2015 by Louis van Gaal, Romero has been an excellent back-up keeper who has performed when called upon. He has let in only 27 goals in 61 games for United, keeping an incredible 37 clean sheets. (h/t Transfermarkt)
He has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Dean Henderson and has almost certainly played his last game for United. There have been very few backup keepers as dependable as our Argentine star.
