Manchester United will need to shell out £600,000 per week to land Erling Haaland
According to The Sun, Manchester United will need to part with a king’s ransom to land Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old is one of the best young players in world football and is in high demand going into the summer window. However, as things stand, the Red Devils will need to part ways with a king’s ransom to land the Norwegian ace.
Apart from the £150m transfer fee that Dortmund want, United will also need to make Haaland the highest-paid player in the league in order to bring him to Old Trafford.
As per the report, United will have to shell out £600,000-a-week to have any chance of signing Haaland. This works out to an incredible £156m over five years and takes the overall cost of signing Haaland to above £300m.
Despite Haaland’s undoubted quality, the numbers are fairly extravagant, especially in the Covid-19 era. To put things into perspective, Haaland’s proposed salary is marginally lower than what David de Gea and Paul Pogba earn combined.
The report goes on to add that Paris Saint-Germain remain the lone club who can afford what Haaland seeks. The player’s contract at Borussia Dortmund includes an £85m buyout that only comes into effect in 2022.
A costly mistake!
United could have landed Haaland for peanuts while he was still with Molde. However, a gaffe by the new director of football John Murtough ensured the player moved to RB Salzburg instead.
Three years on, the extent of that mistake only keeps growing more prominent. He could have joined United for a mere £3million. (h/t The Express)

Haaland is one of the best young players in the world and acquiring him would be worth its weight in gold. However, the finances involved could make the deal difficult for us this summer.
Whether we can pull one out of the hat and land the young Norwegian remains to be seen.
