Solskjaer: Luke Shaw is the second-best finisher at Manchester United
Manchester United star Luke Shaw is enjoying an excellent season for the club. It would appear that his performances have been impressive not just in defence but also in the attacking third.
The 25-year-old has scored once and assisted six times in 36 games across all competitions this season. While the statistics aren’t eye-watering, his performances have been much better than that in recent seasons.
This upturn in form has also seen him return to the English national team. With the Euros set to take place this summer, Shaw is well within his rights to demand a spot in the Three Lions squad.
Shaw had earlier claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is aware of how prolific he is in training. According to The Metro, the Norwegian has now backed the English international’s claim.
“He is behind Mason Greenwood, Luke has a very good finishing technique when he gets in that position so I encourage him to get up there.”
Solskjaer has revealed that youngster Mason Greenwood is the best finisher but Shaw is right up there. It is an interesting revelation given the presence of the likes of Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford among others.
The United boss has also seen enough about Shaw to suggest he plays a more prominent role going forward. The 25-year-old has largely obliged in what is turning out to be his best season in red.
“That was my aim to get him higher up the pitch, getting the end product.”
While Shaw’s upturn in form is encouraging, he will do well to retain the same level of performances in the months to come.

While it is encouraging to know that our players are impressing in training, it holds little weight unless the same is showcased in matches. Shaw’s prolific nature is surprising given how little of it we have seen on the field.
There is still much for the Englishman to prove but for now, he is on the right track.
