Manchester United winger Dan James not happy with Sky Sports pundit for Liverpool remark
Speaking to the official club website (h/t Express), Daniel James called out a Sky Sports pundit for saying the winger supports Liverpool when he joined Manchester United.
The Welshman made his journey to Old Trafford in 2019 when he left Swansea for his big move. It was undoubtedly a big moment for a youngster who came so close to joining Leeds United just a few months before that.
United were pursuing a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho that year. But that transfer fell apart and we went for James instead. (h/t Express)
And since then, James has enjoyed his time at United, having made 33 league appearances during his debut season. Despite not starting regularly, he still has 20 appearances in all competitions during this campaign. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Now, the 23-year-old has called out a Sky Sports pundit for accusing him of supporting Liverpool when the Welsh international made his way to the Theatre of Dreams.
He clarified that he did not have a soft spot for United’s fiercest rivals. But James admitted to supporting Chelsea when he was a youngster.
“When I signed for United, I can’t remember who it was, one of the Sky Sports [pundits] said: ‘he supports Liverpool. I was thinking I don’t support Liverpool, but I never wanted to come out and say I supported Chelsea as a youngster.”
It was, of course, Chelsea who were the opponents when James opened his account for United. He scored in a 4-0 win in August 2019, a moment he described as laden with ‘pure emotions’ and ‘goosebumps’.

Things haven’t been as rosy for him lately as league starts were hard to come by at the start of this season. But that has changed recently as James has started 4 of United’s last 5 Premier League matches.
He would be hoping this run continues when the Red Devils take on Brighton on 4th April.
