Victor Lindelof leaves Sweden camp to return to Manchester United
Speaking in a press conference (h/t Metro), assistant manager Peter Wettergren announced that Victor Lindelof will leave the Sweden squad to re-join Manchester United.
The 26-year-old played in both of his country’s FIFA World Cup qualifying matches during this international break as he featured in wins against Georgia and Kosovo.
But it is now confirmed that he will have no part to play in his team’s friendly match against Estonia on Wednesday. Wettergren announced that the player will fly back to Manchester.
“He will leave us tonight for private, personal reasons.”
However, there was no clear reason as to why the Swede will be returning prematurely. There is also no mention of a possible injury to the former Benfica defender.
Lindelof back in Manchester
Lindelof has been dealing with a chronic back injury that has affected him over the course of this season as well. It has even forced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to manage the defender’s game time in order to not flare the back problem.
The defender himself addressed his injury problems earlier this month. He stated how it still affects him after games and that he requires rest every now and then to manage his fitness.
The Norwegian manager has come to trust Lindelof alongside Harry Maguire in the heart of the United defence this season.
