Manchester United reveal their intentions to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele
A report by sport.es (h/t Express) claims that Manchester United have informed Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele about their intention to make a move for him in the summer transfer window.
United were interested in Dembele and Jadon Sancho last summer as they looked to strengthen the right-wing position. The French winger had impressed at Stade Rennes and Borussia Dortmund.
And despite an injury-stricken time at the Catalan club, the Red Devils were in for the 23-year-old winger. But Barcelona managed to extend his stay at Camp Nou until the summer of 2022.
The Frenchman has had a turnaround of fortunes under Ronald Koeman this season as he has been involved in 22 league games so far. And throughout that time, United have stayed in contact with him.
Dembele would be a massive signing
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have now made their intentions known to Dembele and would look to make an offer in the summer. And if that fails, they would wait for his contract to run out at Barcelona.
But the La Liga giants are eager to tie him down to a new contract. Newly elected president Joan Laporta is very keen on sealing a deal with Dembele in the next few weeks.
The winger, however, is said to have the upper hand in any negotiations. His wage demands remain high while Barcelona are struggling financially due to the Covid-19 pandemic. (h/t Express)
Right-wing is one position that United should look to strengthen, especially if they intend to go for trophies next summer. Daniel James has not looked worthy of a starting spot while Amad Diallo is still very young.
