Transfer News: Erling Haaland seen as long-term Romelu Lukaku replacement by Manchester United
According to transfer news from Daily Star, Manchester United view Erling Haaland as the long-term Romelu Lukaku replacement. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and new Director of Football John Murtough believe that the Borussia Dortmund star can be the striker need to replace Lukaku who left for Inter Milan in 2019.
Manchester United have long been linked with the Norwegian striker, ever since his Molde days. They were even after him when he was at RedBull Salzburg when he was about to make the move to Dortmund. Even now at Dortmund, he continues to be linked with a move.
Manchester United let go of Romelu Lukaku in 2019 because he did not fit the style of play under Solskjaer. It was a move that suited all parties.
Manchester United pushed Mason Greenwood into the first-team, a move that worked well. However, it is Anthony Martial’s current form that has really been problematic.
Goals have been hard to come by for the Frenchman and while Cavani has made up decently for it, he isn’t the long-term option United need at 34 years of age. That is exactly where Solskjaer and Murtough see Haaland fit in.
